Go behind the scenes of the TV series Svärtan. It follows a group of young people who discover an injured mermaid on an island in the archipelago. The series is based on the book Sommaren 1985 by John Ajvide Lindqvist, a master at blending Swedish realism with the supernatural. Behind the scenes, an intensive effort is underway to create the mermaid and make her look authentic.

She was a psychotherapist at Säters psychiatric clinic and supervised the psychologists and therapists in the 1990s treatment of Thomas Quick. The treatment method, based on object relations theory, focused on the development of repressed childhood memories with psychotherapy. In the case Thomas Quick argued that abuse in childhood meant that he started murdering people in adulthood. Whereupon Quick admitted one murder after another, and finally was convicted of eight murders.

The family of the worker Kučera lives happily. His daughter Anežka, engaged to technical draftsman Adolf, is a seamstress. His son Váš is studying to be a machinist. The family also includes his grandfather, a former miner. However, an economic crisis is beginning. Factories stop production. Adolf loses his job and has an argument with Anežka, who has no idea the cause of his nervousness.

Two families live in a weaver's cottage - the Menecs and the Hroms. The women are pretty from the start. Musicians come, inviting fellow weavers who play in Menec's band to the May Day festival. Wanderers wander through the region, encountering a procession on their way. The police disperse it, so the men, who have various professions, join the wanderers. They wander around the world until they reach a tavern, where they get food and a bed. An old spinning wheeler composes a song at the request of one wanderer, inviting everyone to a "wanderer's convention". And so they get together and play together...
